The Brief

The aim of this project is to explore the role that human-centred graphic design can have within a variety of community projects in and around Johannesburg. Each student has to work along with various co-operatives, university projects and outside non-profit organisations in order to define community-based problems specific to their needs, such as branding, marketing, nutritional education on produce, guides to improve practice, and budgeting. These problem statements, based on conversations, interviews and visual documentation, should then be utilised to create designed solutions with the specific client. Throughout this design process, we have to work with and obtain feedback from community members and the client, taking into account their premises, in order to create a design solution that is appropriate, culturally sensitive and tailored to the client's needs.
