The Consultation

Today I met with Shokat Khan at the university. He was discussing his ideas with an architect, a former UJ student Zakiyyah, and a UJ lecturer Denver. They offered suggestions on how to improve his project. The architects feel that using shipping containers would be "tacky" and would ruin the atmosphere of the village. However, Mr Khan still feels strongly about his ideas, but getting people to understand him is a challenge. My presentation will help Mr Khan to communicate his ideas more effectively. Luckily I finally finished the presentation before his next presentation.

The architects want to focus more on the technical aspects of the village. They are focusing more of the construction and the human substation (electricity generating cycles). Mr Khan is more concerned with the aesthetics and natural side of the village. This is why the posters I am currently working on focus on the beauty of nature and the values of the village. I want people to associate the village with peace, life and beauty, not boring science and structures. This will also appeal to the people of Lenasia as seeing images of nature and peace will distract them from the chaos and traffic of the town. The posters need to show that there is a haven and sanctuary within the mayhem of Lenasia.

In addition to designing the posters, I have to create a graphic or image that will be used on the brief for the architecture students at the university. Mr Khan is getting help from the Department of Architecture as well, to design the plans for the construction of the Desiderata Village. The graphic needs to appeal to the students in order for them to choose the project. I need to start working on that soon.
